Going alone on 9 is considered unsportsmanlike...a rub in the face. It is unneccessary...you only need 1 point. There are many views on this. Even different views from us admin Due to a lot of players feel very strongly on this issue we have decided to tell our members to refrain from going alone on 9. We have chosen NOT to penalize for going alone on 9. Most instances are purely accidental. The player that has went alone on 9 is just asked to refrain from it....and told why to do so. If a player after being told to refrain from it continually does it they may be dqd from the tour.
Going alone on 8 is quite acceptable in some instances. If you do not have the lead and you dont have 5 trump...your p could lead wrong thwarting your chances of 2 pts and winning the game. In most euchre literature it states going alone on 8 is acceptable. I am sure some obstinate players do not agree with this, but google euchre etiquette and you will find it..lol
In the game one last chance...which is regular euchre to 11 points...going alone on 9 is essentially the same as going alone on 8 in a 10 point game, so its acceptable. You are two points away and your p may lead wrong thwarting your chance at 2pts and winning the game.
I hope this clears up for the final time our policy on this issue. There is NO penalty for going alone on 9. It just is not nice and many people believe it is unsportsmanlike. My opinion on it? Yes maybe it is rub in the face and a tad unsportsmanlike....and unneccessary, but who cares? Game is over either way. That is my opinion on it.
I will add...throwing a tantrum and causing a ruckus is more unsportsmanlike then going alone on 9. Where as there is no penalty for going alone on 9, there IS a penalty for being disrespectful , attacking verbally another member, and disrupting a tourney and it will get you dq'd and or boxed. Everyone has their opinions on this subject. The facts are....there is no RULE that says you can not go alone on 9 in any euchre literature. Only that is it not necessary. If you find me a rule that says it is forbidden to go alone on 9 and it insues penalty points....then I will stand corrected. Euchre leagues decide their "own" rules. We could make the rule that is perfectly acceptable to go alone on 9. That is our right to do so. We have decided though since the people that so strongly object to it are many we will refrain from it, but if it happens think twice about throwing a fit, or you may find yourself penalized. Just a FYI peeps..thanks
mysteriousdiva on Tuesday 27 October 2009 - 10:23:20 ON GOING ON 9.. IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO GO ALONE ON 8 IN A 10 POINT GAME. THERE ARE TIMES YOU JUST CANT TAKE YOUR P EVEN IT IT IS 2 POINTS YOU ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE TO WIN..THERE ARE VARIABLES SUCH AS WHO HAS LEAD.. MY CONTENTION IS THAT IF IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO GO ON 8 IN A 10 POINT GAME IT SHOULD EQUALLY BE ACCEPTABLE TO GO ALONE ON 9 IN AN 11 POINT GAME....LOL LIL YOU CAN MOVE THIS TO THE FORUM IF YOU LIKE.. OR NOT..IT WOULDNT LET ME RESPOND TO YOUR POST ON THE ISSUE..LOL
what r we really playing for???????????????? is it or is it not we r playing for shits and giggles making friends, having a good time.........let me ask u this do you consuder it to be bad taste whae you go alone on 8 and the score is 8-1???????? i do its like in darts when you have a large score on your oppent do you score more pts??????? no try to win the game.....so if im your partner and you go alone on 8 then that tells me you have no confidence in my playing skills............ right or wrong if you can go alone on eight y cant you go alone on nine in a ten pt game??????? whats the difference will i get banned if i do that???????? or will it be acceptable????????
LOL DART... IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE INTENTION OF SOMEONE TO RUB IT IN THE FACE OF THE OTHER TEAM SOMETIMES IT IS A MEANS TO FINISH THE GAME... I DONT THINK PEOPLE DO IT WITH MALICE IN MIND.. AND IT CAN BE EXCITING TO HAVE A LONER.. SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE SO OVERWHELMED WITH JOY IN HAVING A GOOD HAND THEY CALL IT... I DONT BELIEVE ANY WICKED INCLUDING MYSELF... WOULD DO IT TO BE BE MEAN TO OTHER PLAYERS DELIBERATELY TO RUB THEIR NOSES IN IT. AND THE ISSUE CAME UP OVER ONE GAME.. AND NOW HAS BEEN MADE INTO A BIG STINK...IT IS JUST A GAME....AS LONG AS PEOPLE FOLLOW LILS RULES ON THE SUBJECT IT SHOULDNT BE AN ISSUE... (IS TIRED OF BEING PICKED ON FOR EVERYTHING AND MADE TO FEEL ALL THAT HAPPENS IN WICKEDS IS HER FAULT)
I dont go alone in 9 pts game i do on 8, Just like playing in bar if i win 3 to 4 game in pool i not gonna try keep winning i lost just come back and take the table again if i can.
Going alone on 8 in a 10 pt game or 9 in an 11 pt game has nothing to do with having confidence in your partner's playing abilities. Unless you're psychic or cheating, you have no way of knowing what cards your partner has, and thus which card they are going to play first. Their best card to play may or may not coincide with your hand, and thus the 2 pt play can be jeopardized. It doesn't mean anything negative about them as a partner. Their hand is just different than the person who called the loner. Thus, going alone may be warranted to ensure the 2 point play. It just happens to come in the form of 4 points because you can't choose 2 or 4 on a loner.
It's not rubbing it in, being rude, or unsportsmanlike. It's simply trying to win the game in 1 hand versus 2 hands. This game is a game of chance and the cards can turn at any moment. You can be up 9-1 and still lose if the other teams gets great cards and doesn't pass. Just because you're up by a significant amount, doesn't mean you should "ease up" or stop playing to the best of your ability because you think you have the game in the bag and don't want to rub it in. You never know what can happen.
To answer one of the questions above, needing 1 point to win rather than 2 points is a big difference. They are not the same situation. Just because someone has a "loner" hand, doesn't mean they will get it. Seat position matters and order of cards played matters. In certain circumstances, that person going alone will be to their advantage because it can change the lead card/order of cards played. That being said, there are also situations where a partner can help obtain the 2 pt hand. It all depends on the cards. It's never 100% one way or the other, so don't be so quick to jump on your partner if they choose to go alone on 8 (or 9 in an 11 pt game). It's strategy and many great players, who are nice respectful people, use this strategy.
And that is why she is the brains..lol This IS just a game...and we ARE here to chat with friends...and have a good time...but we are all also here to play EUCHRE? In example.... A football game. Your team is winnng 31 to 7. It is middle of the 4th quarter. Do you expect your team just to quit? Lie down and just play defense, and not try to score anymore, because they are winning by such a large margin? No, you do not. It is the same in this game. We are here to play euchre, and should be playing it to the best of our abilities, from start to finish. Yes we are here to have fun and chat, and cut up with our friends, but we are also here to play a game we love. If we were not, we could just migrate in a chat room and just chat. Keep an open mind peeps. There are so many aspects to this game. Yes this game contains a lot of luck, especially if you are getting bad cards. Keeping an open mind, and trying to learn from other players, helps you gain the skill to maybe make a point out of a hand that really wasn't that great. I have learned so much by playing in this league. It has made me a better euchre player. Yes it is a game, but if you are not playing this game to win it, why play it at all? Just a thought?
I would just like to add 2 things for the record... Dart ~ as long as u r toting a frying pan around u may do whatever u like AND ~ any1 partnering me is welcome 2 go alone on any score & I promise it will not upset me, especially if u make it.
