We have had some instances of late of people going alone on 8 and 9. I will start this off by saying going alone on 8 is perfectly acceptable, and allowed in most literature about this game. Your partner in some instances, can lead wrong, therefore thwarting your chance of two points, and ultimately your chance of winning the game. Now if you have the lead, and have both jacks the ace and an ace king offsuit, no there is no need to go alone on 8 in this scenario. You definitly have 2 points, so going alone on this hand is as bad as going alone on 9. There is however acceptable instances to go alone on 8.
Going alone on 9 is never acceptable. It is considered by most people unsportsmanlike, a rub in the face.
That being said...we have no penalty for going alone on 9, due to most instances, of going alone on 9 are purely accidental. The person did not look at the score, got excited at such a good hand and clicked alone, or they got distracted hit the wrong button. If someone goes alone on 9 on purpose, they are told it is not necessary, and told to refrain from it in the future. Most older members know not to go alone on 9, so the instances we have of going alone on 9 are with newer members, that maybe have no problem with it, or are from an area where it is acceptable, even in real cards, or just purely accidental ( which most cases I have seen are).
My thoughts on going alone on 9 are....where as yes...it is a rub in the face sorta, and not really necessary...who cares? The game is over either way? You have both jacks the ace and an ace and king of offsuit, is it reallllly that important to play your first card and tram take the rest, just because your sitting on 9? It is not that big of a deal to me and does not warrent such nastiness out of people, or a penalty. I would think there are much more serious offenses in this game then going alone on 9, such as table talk as I stated below, whether it be in reg std or a gimmick
Going alone on 9 will always be unacceptable here, due to the fact that most people feel strongly about it. Getting irate and nasty when someone does do it though, whether by an accident or purposely will only get you in the box, because being nasty to a fellow wicked is a much more serious offense then going alone on 9. The TD's are aware of the rule here, and will inform the person that going alone on 9 is unacceptable and to refrain from it. There is no need of nastiness out of anyone over this issue. I hope this clears up any misconceptions of our policy on this.
ok really...who cares? if ya beat ya beat .. I personally feel that if someone complains they r the poor sport... i dont do it but i really dont care if i get beat on a loner on 8 or 9.gawdssss there must be something else to complain about eh!!! < shakes her head n rolls eyes>
